
One of the ongoing research interests of Quartermaine Archaeology is that of hydraulic society and its harnessing of mass human labour for monumental public works. This is represented in the American southeast by various earthen mound structures, the southwest by pueblo complexes, and various other examples in locations worldwide.

By studying these monuments to human endeavour, we can learn many things about how prehistoric peoples utilized riverine and maritime resources to make their environment work for and with them. A great number of their solutions to habitation in these environments are equally applicable in our desire to develop various commercial and residential areas today.
